She was born in Norman, Oklahoma. Hoda Kotb’s father’s name is A.K. Kotb, and her mother’s name is Samaha Kotb. Her dad was a fossil energy expert who passed at the age of 51, and her mom, Samaha Kotb, operates at the Library of Congress. She is the middle kid of the Kotb family who has a brother called Adel and a sister Hala.

In 2005, Hoda Kotb tied the knot with Burzis Kanga, a former tennis instructor at the University of New Orleans. In the year 2008, their marriage came to an end with a divorce. 

In 2015, she revealed that she was involved with investor Joel Schiffman, whom she had met online. In February of this year, she announced that she had adopted a baby girl called Haley Joy Kotb.

In 1986, Hoda Kotb began her professional journalism career when she was hired as a news assistant for CBS News. Later, she worked as a general assignment newscaster for WQAD-TV in Birmingham, Alabama. 

After a brief stint as a weekend anchor and reporter at WXVT-TV in Vermont, she moved on to WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, where she currently works as an anchor and reporter. 

From 1992 until 1998, Kotb worked as a reporter and anchor for WWL-TV, a television station in the Louisiana city of New Orleans. The next year, she began working for NBC, first as a national correspondent, and she has remained with the network to this day.

As a correspondent for Dateline NBC, the journalist has worked on the network’s newsmagazine since it premiered in 1998. In 2004, she hosted a weekly syndicated television series called ‘Your Total Health,’ which aired from 2004 until 2008. Since 2007, Kotb has served as a co-host on NBC’s ‘Today Show,’ which airs in the fourth hour.

In 2014, she starred in two television series ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.’ Two years later, Kotb featured on the reality television show ‘Brothers Take New Orleans‘ as a celebrity judge. 

Miss Sweetum appeared in the children’s animated television series ‘Mickey and the Roadster Racers in 2017. As of March 2017, she has acted as a third co-anchor on NBC’s Today Show, and she has also filled in as a co-anchor for Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer on occasion.

As an author, Hoda Kotb released her autobiography, named ‘Hoda: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer, and Kathie Lee,’ in October 2010, based on her experiences in war zones, bad hair, cancer, and Kathie Lee. 

Ten Years Later: Six People Who Faced Adversity and Transformed Their Lives‘ was published on January 15, 2013, and it is her first published book. 

Afterward, in 2016, the author published his third book, ‘Where They Belong: The Best Decisions People Rarely Made,’ published by Penguin. The author of the fourth book, titled ‘I’ve Loved You Since Forever,‘ Kotb published it in 2018.

NBC’s “The Education of Ms. Groves” garnered her a Peabody Award in 2006, followed by a Headliner Award in 2007 and Columbia University Award in 2008.

Today was awarded the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Morning Program in each of the three years that Kotb was a part of the Today morning host lineup: 2010, 2011, and 2012.

For her song video, “Truly Brave,” which she made in partnership with Sara Bareilles and Cyndi Lauper to raise awareness for pediatric cancer, she was awarded a Webby Award in Online Film & Video – Public Service & Activism in 2015.

In the same year, she was also awarded another Gracie Award for Outstanding Host in News/Non-Fiction for her work in 2015.

In 2016, Kotb’s SiriusXM program was recognized with a Gracie Award for Outstanding Host in Entertainment/Information, which she received in 2016.

Kolb was included in Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2018.

During their stint as co-hosts, Kotb and Gifford were recognized with a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host, which they received in 2019. In October 2021, Kotb was presented with the Matrix Award.
