According to acquaintances, Anne Heche died on Friday after succumbing to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident days earlier.
She reached the age of 53.Her friend, Nancy Davis, announced the news in an Instagram tribute post.
On August 5, Heche was seriously injured after colliding with a residence in the Los Angeles area of Mar Vista.
According to NBC News, shortly after the collision, her automobile exploded into flames, which took firefighters almost an hour to extinguish.
She was placed in a coma on August 8 after being transported to the hospital on August 6 in a severe condition.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Police Department investigated the actor for allegedly driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of a prior hit-and-run.
The police verified to the Times that they acquired a search order to analyze the actor's BAC.
The LAPD verified to TMZ on August 11 that Heche was under the influence of cocaine during the collision.
"A preliminary analysis of the blood sample confirmed the presence of narcotics," stated the LAPD. The case is being examined as a DUI collision involving a crime.
