Coco Gauff creates history in the US Open

Coco Gauff, who is 18 years old, made history at the 2024 U.S. Open yesterday (Sept. 4).

Since 2009, the tennis star is the youngest American to make it to the quarterfinals.

The tournament was held in Flushing, New York, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Gauff beat Shuai Zhang to reach the quarterfinals of a professional tournament for the first time in her career.

ESPN tweeted, "At age 18, Coco Gauff is the youngest American woman to make it to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open since 2009."

Gauff talked about how loud the fans cheering in the stadium were. "I can't hear my own screams here.

I want to do it even more. I think I'm getting a lot of energy from the flow. I enjoy it," she shared.
